Yellow Lily with Blue Border – Original Oil Pastel Painting | Day 65/365

This artwork is part of my 365 Daily Painting Reflections project, a year-long practice where I create one artwork every day, exploring color, place, and small visual moments that stay with me.

Day 65 features a bright yellow lily framed by a decorative blue border inspired by Portuguese azulejos — the traditional painted ceramic tiles that can be seen throughout Lisbon and many Portuguese cities. The ornamental blue motifs echo the patterns often found in historic tilework, bringing a subtle sense of place into the composition.

The flower itself is painted with oil pastels, using thick layers of color and expressive strokes that give the petals movement and warmth. The vibrant yellow contrasts with the cool blues of the tile-like border, creating a lively dialogue between botanical form and architectural ornament.

This piece combines two visual inspirations that surround my life in Portugal — flowers and tiles, nature and pattern.
