This original A4 oil pastel painting (21 × 29.7 cm) is part of my 365-day daily painting project, created in Lisbon, Portugal. The work features a vibrant orange freesia set against a hand-painted azulejo-inspired grid, referencing traditional Portuguese tile patterns. The composition plays on contrast: the organic, expressive movement of the flower against the calm, structured geometry of the background.
The freesia is built with layered strokes of orange, red, and yellow, giving it warmth and intensity, while the blue-grey pattern adds rhythm and a sense of place. Oil pastels create a rich, textured surface where each mark remains visible, preserving the immediacy and physicality of the process.
This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork on paper, signed and part of an ongoing exploration of floral forms, color, and Portuguese visual identity. It works well as a distinctive piece for collectors drawn to contemporary botanical art with cultural references to Lisbon.
